The nostalgic rambling on the front page led me to search for something I’ve always wanted, a two door Tahoe. Not that I need another red, two door SUV, but this just looks fantastic. It’s even a 5 speed, which gives it one of my favourite vehicular attributes: a comically long shifter. If I bought this, I could have three manual vehicles with comically long shifters.

I won’t be buying this thing. But I do want it.

Today I learned: GMT400 Tahoes could be had with a manual. Neat!

It’s not listed as an option on the wiki page, I wonder if it’s been swapped, or was some sort of special order. I’ve definitely never seen a manual one before.

When I had my ‘99 Suburban I constantly daydreamed about a manual swap... The 4L60E was by far the weakest link on those trucks... followed closely by the 10-bolt rear and paper mache door hinge pin bushings.

My 4L60E was likewise the weakest link, but only because of drying out seals, it had a trans cooler it’s whole life so it actually held up just fine otherwise. Though it was just behind a 4.3, not a 350...

The Blazer also had tragic hinge pin bushings. I never did replace those

I’m still traumatized by how shitty the 4l60e is and everything about the gmt400.

Ditto... It’s amazing to me that the GMT400 and the GMT800 came from the same company. I used to appreciate the GMT400, but after owning one I can sincerely say they are complete and utter shit.

I think only the 2 doors could be had with a manual.

Only person I’ve ever heard say they have a bucket list of ‘comically long shifter’ vehicles. This place is amazing. Thank you. Made my day.

In the USA it was available from ‘92-95. It’s easy to forget now but it was only renamed Tahoe in 1995 - so the only Tahoe with an manual is a 1995. From ‘92-94 it was a Blazer 1500. They renamed it to better differentiate it from the S10 Blazer when the 2nd generation came out in ‘95. This is one of those weird things like the Grand Cherokee manuals that probably existed just to keep the advertised starting price low. They didn’t expect anyone to actually buy them and once the model got established and people were coming into the showroom at a steady pace they dropped the manual.

Definitely was an option in the US so I assume it was in Canada too. Dealers probably didn’t stock many of them just like manual Colorado’s right now.

Oh man, I would go buy that right now if my wife wouldn’t kill me for doing so. 2 door Tahoe with a manual and barn doors, in fire engine red. Schweeeet!
